DJ Khaled’s Snapchat has long been a great go-to for some light-hearted daily inspiration. There’s not much better than seeing Khaled watering his plants and reminding you, you’ve got the keys.
But with the release of his book on November 22, appropriately titled The Keys, you can carry Khaled and his wisdom with you even without an internet connection.
The Miami native released the first chapter of his book, STAY AWAY FROM THEY, written entirely in capital letters, focusing on ridding the negative from your life.
“YOU HEAR ME SAYING ‘STAY AWAY FROM ‘THEY’’ ALL THE TIME, BUT WHO ARE ‘THEY’? I’LL TELL YOU: ‘THEY’ ARE THE ENEMY. ‘THEY’ WANT TO KEEP THE KEYS HIDDEN AND BLOCK YOU FROM THE PATHWAY OF MORE SUCCESS, AND ‘THEY’ WANT TO SEE YOU TO FAIL,” it starts.
“NOBODY THOUGHT A HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUT WOULD EVER BE A RECORD LABEL EXECUTIVE. EVEN LATER, WHEN I WANTED TO MAKE AN ALBUM, I HAD SO MANY PEOPLE TELL ME I’D LOST MY MIND. ‘THEY’ ALL SAID, ‘KHALED, YOU CAN’T HAVE A HIP-HOP ALBUM; YOU CAN’T RAP.’ BUT I FOUND A WAY. NOT ONLY THAT, I MAKE SOME OF THE BIGGEST RAP RECORDS IN HISTORY.
“AND NOW I GOT THE KEYS.”
From those few excerpts alone you can see there’s no question of a ghost writer.
What’s more, with a number one album, three BET Hip Hop awards, the birth of his first son and now a book, 2016 has proved Khaled really does have the keys.
