As the 2016/17 Champions League edition reached its fourth round of group games, so began another chapter in the difficult European history of two of England’s finest clubs: Arsenal and Manchester City.

Arsenal are well known for struggling in November, but a game against Ludogorets Razgrad was surely a nice way to warm into it?

Unfortunately not.

Arsenal’s social media team weren’t giving up just yet however – it’s not over until the fat lady tweets.

And it appears Granit Xhaka got the notification.

Meanwhile, over at the Etihad just as Arsenal were correcting their course, Manchester City found themselves on a familiar path as Lionel Messi made it 1-0 in sublime fashion.

But following in Arsenal’s footsteps, Pep Guardiola’s side pinched one back before the break through some fine work from Raheem Sterling, finished off by Ilkay Gundogan.

And a minute or so later, Oliver Giroud levelled things up for Arsenal with his noggin.

So as the second half began, could Manchester City continue their good work? You betcha. Kevin De Bruyne’s free kick was of far too high a quality to stay out of the net.

And after a quite sensational 20 minute period in which both sides could have scored numerous times, it was the two-time Premier League champions who finished the game off.

All in all, it was pretty impressive stuff.

Meanwhile in Bulgaria, Arsenal had been struggling to complete their own comeback. But with just minutes left on the clock, man of the moment Mesut Ozil turned up right on time to score a sensational goal and send Arsenal through to the last 16.

All in all, not a bad night for the Premier League’s representatives.

Can Tottenham and Leicester make it four wins from four tomorrow?
