Gardaí have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a fatal stabbing in Longford town.

He is currently being detained at Longford Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The incident happened shortly before midday today, on Great Water Street, where a man was discovered with chest wounds.

He was taken to Mullingar Hospital where he was pronounced dead this afternoon.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses.
