Gardaí are investigating the death of a teenager in Co Clare early today.
The alarm was raised at around 6.40am when a motorist reported she had “collided with something” on a country road near Killimer.
The woman stopped her car and returned to the scene where she found a 15-year-old boy lying injured on the roadside.
It is understood the victim may have been lying on the roadside or suffered a fall before the car collided with him. Gardaí and ambulance paramedics rushed to the scene.
The victim was later pronounced dead and his body removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem examination will take place this evening.
Gardaí will await the results of the post-mortem before they determine the course of their investigation.
It is hoped the autopsy will tell gardaí whether the victim died as a result of being struck by the vehicle.
The road at the scene remains closed while a technical examination takes places.
