Yeovil made a signing with a difference today as they announced a teenage cancer patient as their new goalkeeper.
The heart-warming gesture by the club meant 13-year-old Daryl Allinson was welcomed to the training ground by manager Darren Way, given a goalkeeper jersey bearing his name and even took part in training.
The club also sent out a press release to mark the occasion, stating that the Frome-based keeper came to the attention of the gaffer after conceding just one goal in the Whitchurch Tournament in Bristol prior to 2015″.
Daryl is a keen footballer and had previously played for Whitchurch in Bristol and Frome Town’s youth squad, before being diagnosed with a rare form of Leukaemia in April 2015.
After undergoing an unsuccessful bone marrow transplant last year, Daryl’s family raised £100,000 for a second operation, which was branded 100% successful by doctors.

A statement marking the occasion from club manager Darren Way said: “I’ve been looking to bring Daryl in for some time following his performances on the pitch, but in recent times his determination, bravery and attitude during a difficult period has been inspiring.
“Daryl is a fantastic role model for everyone and a shining example of what positivity and fortitude can achieve.”
