James Arthur has scored his first UK number one album and described it as “the ultimate sense of achievement”.

The former X Factor winner’s second studio record, Back From The Edge, has debuted at the top of the charts and cemented his comeback.

The album includes the single Say You Won’t Let Go, which spent three weeks at number one in September and October.

James is only the second X Factor winner to score a number one with their second album after Leona Lewis, according to the Official Charts Company.

His eponymous debut peaked at number two in 2013.

The singer said: “To have a body of work go to Number 1 … it’s the ultimate sense of achievement. Thank you so much to everyone who has bought it.”

Robbie Williams’s Greatest Hits is back in the top 10 for the first time in 10 years at number nine, while two other albums debuted in the top five – The Courteeners’ Mapping The Rendezvous went in at four and Madness’ Can’t Touch Us Now entered at number five.

Meanwhile, in the singles chart, Little Mix held on to their reign at the summit for the third week with Shout Out To My Ex.

James’ Say You Won’t Let Go also held steady at two, and Clean Bandit’s latest single Rockabye has jumped four places to number three.

The top five is completed by The Weeknd’s Starboy ft Daft Punk and Closer by Chainsmokers.
