For someone so consistently positive in his music a lot of negativity surrounds Lil Yachty.

In a new mini-documentary for i-D Yachty affirms his belief in promoting positivity and offers some advice to the job-seekers out there: “Just be yourself.”

He adds: “Always push positivity because they’re listening to what you say. If you have that effect on children, use it for good.”

The Atlanta native is still very clear that he’s not a rapper, he’s an “artist”.

The 19-year-old has angered a lot of rap purists since emerging, because of his child-like flows and beats, but Yachty insists he’s a brand, a movement and an entrepreneur before a rapper.

As for those looking to get ahead, Yachty put forward his own formula.

“You have to be original, that’s the key to getting anywhere in life – originality. If you’re going to a job interview and everyone acts the same, that one person with that spunk is going to get the job. Just be yourself.”
