Beyoncé said that America is on the brink of making history – again – as she appeared with US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton at a rally and concert in Cleveland, Ohio.
The singer added that she is thrilled that her young nephew was able to witness Barack Obama’s 2008 election as the nation’s first black president.
Now, the star said, she wants her daughter Blue Ivy “to grow up seeing a woman lead this country and know her possibilities are limitless. That’s why I’m with her”.
Clinton took the stage after a raucous show that featured Beyoncé and her husband, rapper Jay Z. Clinton, in a nod to her signature outfit, said she loved the trouser suit worn by the singer.
Beyonce, 35, looked sensational in a black and white spotted co-ord, while Jay Z, 46, kept it smart-casual in a black suit with a cap.
She also lavished praise on the celebrity couple and asked thousands of cheering fans for their votes.
“Please take this energy out with you,” she said, rattling off the address of an early voting location. “Help us win Ohio.”
During their stint on-stage, Beyonce and Jay Z – who earlier this year weathered the storm over reports of their marriage being in trouble, due in part to Beyonce’s emotionally-charged Lemonade album – put on a public display of affection in front of the audience.
The politician’s campaign is turning to a series of star-studded free concerts in swing states to try to energise young and minority voters among the Democrats, while her rival Donald Trump defends his go-it-alone approach.
Trump bragged that he didn’t need stars to draw thousands to his events.
“I didn’t have to bring J-Lo or Jay Z,” he told a crowded rally Friday night in Hershey, Pennsylvania. “I am here all by myself. Just me. No guitar, no piano, no nothing.”
Clinton’s campaign has hosted a series of free concerts designed to drum up enthusiasm for her bid, particularly among millennials and minority voters. Rocker Bon Jovi and R&B singer Ne-Yo rallied voters in North Carolina, while singer/actress Jennifer Lopez took the stage in Miami and singer Steve Wonder was performing in Philadelphia.
On Saturday night, Clinton will host a concert with pop star Katy Perry in Philadelphia, then return to the city on Monday for a joint rally with President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton.
