Singer Bebe Rexha has revealed her mother did not believe her when she revealed she had been asked to host this year’s MTV European Music Awards.
Speaking on the red carpet ahead of the ceremony in Rotterdam, the American star said she was so worried about presenting the ceremony she was not thinking about being nominated.
Bebe said: “To be a new artist to be asked that, I’m really grateful.
“My mum didn’t believe me she was like ‘why you?’ I was like ‘I dunno why me’.”
The singer added: “I’m not actually nervous about being nominated, I was a little shocked.
“I’m just trying to focus on hosting and performing well.”
Also on the red carpet were American rock group Kings Of Leon, actor Jaden Smith and a host of other big names.
The 23rd EMAs will see punk rockers Green Day handed the Global Icon Award for their contribution to music.
An array of awards will be handed out, with Beyonce and Justin Bieber leading the way with the most nominations.
American pop rock group DNCE revealed they would like to collaborate with Green Day.
Speaking on the red carpet, they said: “We love Green Day, they have been heroes of ours for a long time, so to watch them perform tonight and be up there on stage.
“We got to watch their sound check and that alone was such a special moment because they are always killing it.
“Green Day would be incredible to work with but there’s also so many amazing artists here tonight.”
