The second series of Poldark reaches its climax on Sunday night with its 10th and final episode, meaning fans will have to wait until next year to see more from their favourite shirtless TV hero.

The BBC drama’s leading man Ross Poldark, played by Aidan Turner, is still facing the repercussions of his contentious tryst with ex-fiancee Elizabeth, played by Heida Reed.

His marriage to Demelza, played by Eleanor Tomlinson, is on the rocks after she considered cheating on him.

The final episode will also see Poldark considering re-enlisting in the army due to his personal issues.

The series was recently rocked by controversy, after the leading character engaged in a forceful intimate encounter with his ex-partner.

Poldark was seen surprising Elizabeth at her house after kicking in the door and demanding that she cancel her wedding to his nemesis George Warleggan.

He then forced himself upon her with a kiss and pushed her on to the bed before she appeared to finally give in to him.

Broadcaster regulator Ofcom said it was assessing complaints made by viewers about the controversial scene, which was described by campaigners as “rape”.

Although for much of the series it was directly up against ITV rival period drama Victoria in the same time slot, Poldark still managed to secure around five million viewers during its weekly broadcast.

The third series of the Cornish drama, based on the novels of Winston Graham, will take place over nine episodes and is set to air in 2017.
