Larry Lamb has revealed he isn’t bothered by being the I’m A Celebrity camp “granddad” and plans to stick with jungle life until he’s kicked out.
The former EastEnders actor is this year’s oldest contestant, at the age of 68.
He said: “When you get to my age, you are always the old one.
“On a film or acting job, I am always the granddad!
“Am I fit? I’m nearly 70 years old and I am fit for a 70 year old.”
“I am definitely not going to quit the Jungle though, I will stay until I am booted out,” he added.
Larry said his four children – including TV presenter son George Lamb – talked him into signing up fore the programme.
He said: “I made a pilot in the spring for a new comedy series and we were going to be commissioned to make it around now. But for whatever reason it hasn’t happened yet.
“I’d finished a film and when this suddenly came up, I happened to tell my kids who kept saying, ‘Do it, do it’.”
Larry said he doesn’t have any phobias and is used to long spells away from home.
He said: “If I had to spend a lifetime with people who got on my nerves, then that would be difficult but three weeks is fine.
“It’s like being invited to a big party where nobody knows each other but you are all there together and you’ve got to get along.”
Asked whether he thought jungle life will be tougher than being on a drama set, he replied: “When you are acting, you can be on set and you can sometimes think it is not turning out the way you thought it would be.
“In some ways this will be the toughest thing I have ever done and in other ways, it won’t be. The experience is why I am doing this. As you get older, if a challenge presents itself you need to seize the opportunity…”
