Robbie Williams has admitted he hardly remembers anything about any of the Brit Awards ceremonies he has been to.
The singer is due to receive the prestigious Brits Icon Award at a one-off show at Troxy in London, an award that has only previously been given to Sir Elton John and David Bowie.
He said: “Elton, David and then this chav from Stoke-on-Trent. I’m glad it’s me, I’m glad it’s not going somewhere else.
“The other people were absolute legends and icons. I kind of have mixed feelings about receiving it. My mum is really buoyed about it, she’s got her chest puffed out.”
The award will be Robbie’s 18th Brit but he said he has very few memories of attending the ceremonies.
He said: “I’ve been to rehab twice, I’ve smoked a lot of weed, I’ve forgotten a lot of stuff. I know that I went, there was video evidence but there is not a lot I can remember. I know they were wild, hedonistic, heady days, incredibly enjoyable.”
Announcing a 2017 stadium tour at a press conference at London’s Savoy Hotel, he was asked if Take That could have toured with him instead of special guest Erasure.
Robbie replied: “I think you will find that the boys are stadium acts in their own right. Maybe they could have come to Europe with me…”
Questioned on whether he might reunite with the band as a surprise when they play in Manchester next year, he added: “If I did it wouldn’t be a surprise, it might happen, who knows? But right now, I don’t think so. A reunion at some point, definitely, but we just couldn’t get our diaries to work in the next 12 months.”
Robbie also admitted he was disappointed by how his single Party Like A Russian performed in the charts, reaching number 68, but said he was not expecting it to be a hit.
He said: “I knew four weeks before I started to promote it, looking at other acts, people more relevant than me right now.”
He said the way the charts are now weighted up to include streaming has made the difference, saying: “The difference for me is the audience my age don’t stream stuff, they buy copies. I thought Party Like A Russian could have performed a bit better but I wasn’t expecting to be in the Top 40. “
