Renewed appeals have been issued for information on the 2012 murder of a man in Cavan.

John Kerins, who lived alone in Cornaveagh, Bailieboro, was found dead in his home on November 9 of that year.

Four years on, Crimestoppers and the Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may be able to assist in the inquiry to come forward.

A reward may be offered for information which is found to significantly help the investigation.

Speaking today, Detective Inspector Shay O’Leary, Monaghan Garda Station said: “As there were no witnesses, we have very limited information to help solve this crime.

“That is why we are making a renewed appeal for anyone with any information on this case to come forward. It’s the fourth anniversary of his murder and we are hoping that someone may come forward with information.

“I genuinely believe that members of the public have information in relation to the murder and I am asking these individuals to come forward.

“With the passage of time they may now wish to come forward. Relationships, friendships and loyalties may have changed and people may be in a better position to help us now.

“Any information should be forwarded to investigating Gardaí at Bailieboro Garda Station or any Garda Station. If a member of the public prefers to give the information anonymously, they can call Crimestoppers on 1800 25 00 25.”

Crimestoppers Chairman Tim Dalton said: “Members of the public can call Crimestoppers with potentially valuable information about any crime without leaving their name or personal details.

“The ability to give information anonymously can be an important incentive and could help solve a case and secure a conviction.

“Even the smallest piece of information, which may seem insignificant, might help with the investigation.”
