The Irish Government has formally commits to accepting up to 200 unaccompanied child refugees from Calais.

The commitment came as the Dáil accepted a motion on the closure of the former ‘jungle’ camp in the French coastal town.

The motion also calls for additional state services for refugees, and for a coherent national programme on the subject.

Ireland has so far relocated 109 refugees from Greece, who have travelled there fleeing from the Middle East.
