Earlier: The Health Minister Simon Harris has said it saddens and frustrates him that women cannot access abortion in the case of fatal foetal abnormality.
Simon Harris was responding to reports that an Irish couple is live-tweeting their journey to Liverpool to terminate a pregnancy.
The couple, tweeting under the handle @itstimetorepeal say they have been forced to leave their seriously ill child at home.
Minister Harris said the matter of abortion law is now in the hands of the Constitutional Convention.
He said: “It greatly saddens and frustrates me that women and their partners in this country find themselves in this situation.
“But, there’s no point giving people platitudes on this matter. This is a constitutional matter and if there is to be a change in this area it will have to come about by the vote of the Irish people.
“I would like to see change. I have made the point before that my generation has never had a say on this issue, and I would like my generation to have a say.
“(However,) the process is very clear and it is that of the Citizens’ Assembly.”
