AN APPLICATION for planning permission, for the erection of a Dialysis Unit, has been lodged with Wexford Co. Council.

Braun has submitted an application for a 757 square metre single-storey building at Sinnottstown Lane, Drinagh. The application is seeking permission for the building which they say will be used as a Renal Dialysis Clinic, as well as for a 53 square metre ancillary storage structure, building signage, car parking, connection to public services and all associated works.

Earlier this year, the lack of dialysis services in Wexford was highlighted when a man who quit dialysis in Waterford due to the stress of the journey passed away a short time later.

In addition to this, an application by Fresenius Medical Care (Ireland) Limited, for a dialysis unit in Whitemill Industrial Estate was refused due to the effect the placing of a medical health unit would have on the available sites around it.

That application is currently under appeal with An Bord Pleanala, with a decision expected by January 11, 2017.
