If Psy’s 2012 hit Gangnam Style was ever going to come to Strictly then it was, of course, going to be performed by Ed Balls.
And we are sure we are not alone when we say that, when Ed brings it to the stage on Saturday, it will be his crowning moment of the show. In fact, it might be THE crowning moment of the show’s entire history.
But it is not a challenge to be taken lightly. So, to show our support, we have taken on the painstaking (and hilarious) task of finding some of the best celebrity Gangnam Style attempts to give him some inspiration.
There are many, but these seven have got to be some of the best…
1. Nelly Furtado
She didn’t just do the little dance move in the middle, she actually sang the whole song – and absolutely nailed it. But don’t worry Ed, we’re not expecting you to sing. Unless you want to.
2. Mel B
She doesn’t look happy about it, but when she got up on the X Factor Australia stage she put Psy himself to shame. And she gets extra points for doing it in those killer heels.
3. Little Mix
They may not have had the best space, or the best moves, but we are just jealous of how much fun it looks like they are having in the Capital FM studio.
4. Britney and Ellen
Back in 2012, aka the year Psy liked to visit his celebrity fans to make sure they were doing his dance justice, he had his work cut out for him when he tried to teach both Britney AND Ellen DeGeneres. Ellen wasn’t bad, but for a well practised pop star, we weren’t too impressed by Britney. Ed, we’re expecting a little more from you.
5. Liam Payne and Gemma Cairney
Now this is a very important one to watch as Liam draws attention to the serious side effects of Gangnam Style. If not danced with caution, you may end up with crossed-handlebar arms for life. Know your limits.
6. Hugh Jackman
Remember this being a thing that happened? This ad features king of cool Hugh Jackman doing a full music video to the song, complete with effects, props and flashmobs. He doesn’t break out into the signature dance moves, but we hope it gives Ed some ideas of how to jazz it up a little.
7. Madonna
Now, we all know that Madonna is an excellent dancer at any age, but GS was not a great one for her. This is how NOT to do it, Ed.
We are very sorry if you now have this tune stuck firmly in your head until Saturday night’s Strictly. Sort of.
