It’s not often that Skepta talks to the press so when he does, you listen. This time he’s revealed some big news – a film about Boy Better Know.

“It’s going to be about Boy Better Know but not in [a completely] autobiographical way”, the MC told the Evening Standard.

And more news that’s equally as exciting, the Tottenham native is consulting on the next season of Topboy.

Since winning his Mercury Prize in September, Skepta has featured on a few tracks and put out one of his own, but the main focus right now seems to be community projects.

The latest interview took place during the Levi’s Music Project, where he’s been providing guidance to 12 young musicians from Tottenham, and he’s searching for a worthwhile way to spend the £25,000 Mercury Prize money.

The UK veteran came across as his usual meditative self, explaining how Adele’s advice is helping him keep the negatives of fame at bay and how he restricts what he exposes himself to in order to keep his mind positive.

“Whatever I take in is how I feel. If I play GTA then jump in my car and drive around and someone tries to cut me up I’m like, ‘What the f*** are you doing?’ I can feel it,” he said. “But if I listen to some jazz or some nice Fela Kuti before I leave the house and then someone’s being foolish outside, I’m like: ‘Come on, bro.’”

As for what’s next, the MC had this to say.

“People might get confused now because they’re gonna be like: ‘Okay, where’s the follow-up to Konnichiwa? Why haven’t you got a song with Katy Perry?’” he said. “I’m not putting myself in that chase again. I’m done. There isn’t another award I want to win, there isn’t a place I want to play or an artist that I’m dying to collaborate with.

“I mean, what the f*** do I want? I’ve written my legacy, to the Mercury. Now I just want to help people.”
