Two of the writers for the next Star Wars film are apparently drawing a comparison between the result of the US election and the on-screen rebellion in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Chris Weitz and Gary Whitta have adopted the insignia of Star Wars’ Rebellion with a safety pin through it as a way of protesting over Donald Trump’s victory.

The safety pin is a symbol of solidarity with persecuted minorities that has gained currency in America following the election and first gained traction after the Brexit vote in the UK.
Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill even retweeted the image.
Both writers have already been outspoken about their feelings over the result of the election and have adopted the logo as their Twitter avatars.
It will not be fine.

TV news should begin with the fact that Trump ran a racist, misogynistic, xenophobic campaign. He does not get a clean slate.

While working on the movie, I recall thinking/talking a lot about how good people rise up when they realize they’re facing the unthinkable. https://t.co/9F182JvKsV

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be released in UK cinemas on December 15.
