John Higgins beat Ronnie O’Sullivan to become the Dafabet Champion of Champions last night – a pretty big deal – but the worst happened when collecting his trophy.
We’ve all imagined it. Maybe it was when you were at school and there was an award you had to collect in front of your class…Or, worse still, when footballers jump around with their winning tropy despite being elevated hundreds of feet above the pitch – you can’t help but think, what if it gets dropped?
That’s exactly what happened to Higgins. His moment of victory was dampened when the trophy quite literally fell apart in his hands, and then dropped out of them.

Luckily for the four-time World Champion there’s also a cash prize of £100,000, so that will make things hurt a little less.
