Lewis Hamilton will start on pole position for Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix after clocking a time one-tenth of a second faster than Nico Rosberg. He’s really upping the pressure.
It’s Hamilton’s third pole in a row, and just the second time he’s managed it in Brazil.
With Rosberg capable of winning the championship today Hamilton’s speed in qualifying gave his fans renewed hope that he could yet cause an upset. The 31-year-old must finish ahead of his teammate to keep his title chances alive going into the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi.

The German has won in Brazil the last two seasons, and even if he doesn’t win tomorrow is still the favourite to pick up his first title come the end of the season. Rosberg knows that second and third in the remaining rounds will be enough to emulate his father Keke, who won the world title in 1982.
Still, after a difficult season for Hamilton taking pole on a track where he’s never won will provide great confidence.

“I felt quite comfortable in qualifying as I have done all through the weekend,” said Hamilton, who is wearing a one-off tribute helmet in honour of Senna this weekend. “Nico generally has been going quicker as the weekend has gone on, but generally I have had it covered.”
Rosberg added: “Lewis was just marginally quicker in the end. Anyway, as we have seen this year, pole is not the guy who will necessarily win the race.”
It’s going to be interesting.
