A Sinn Féin TD has made a protected disclosure to the Justice Minister about allegations of Garda misconduct in the Leitrim district.
Last May, TD for Sligo, Leitrim, West Cavan and South Donegal Martin Kenny raised allegations of misconduct in relation to the handling of Garda informants in Leitrim.
Deputy Kenny said he used the disclosure process – which usually used by whistleblowers – because of inaction by the minister.
The Sligo-Leitrim TD said he had also asked GSOC to investigate the disappearance of Leitrim man, Pat Heeran.
Deputy Kenny said that on May 26 this year, he made a Dáil speech outlining his concerns about alleged garda misconduct in the Leitrim district.
He said “no meaningful action or consultation with me has taken place since then, so I am using the provisions of the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform Guidelines to provide more details to the Minister, arising from information provided to me by third parties.”
