The row over the site for the country’s new National Childrens’ Hospital has taken a new turn.
The ‘Connolly for Kids Hospital’ group has delivered a letter to the Taoiseach Enda Kenny, making a dramatic call for the dissolution of both the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board and the Children’s Hospital Group Board.
They are objecting to comments by the Health Minister Simon Harris that campaigners are using “offensive language” over the hospital site.
They also claim that incorrect information was presented to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health regarding the future success of the current hospital plan.
Consultant Jimmy Sheehan says he and other members of the group feel they are being treated with disdain by the Minister.
Mr Sheehan said: “We feel we know what we’re talking about in that we’re highly informed as we’ve spent our life in healthcare and we’re dealing with a minister who himself said he knew nothing about healthcare when he took office, and he thought that was an advantage.
“So to have him criticising us is highly, highly insulting.”
