The jury will resume deliberations tomorrow morning in the trial of a 53-year-old Wexford man, charged with murdering a 41-year-old, on whom he stamped a number of times.

The Central Criminal Court trial has heard that Latvian man Gints Intembergs was found dead on his kitchen floor on the morning September 16, 2014.

Liam Power, of no fixed abode, has pleaded not guilty to murder on that or the previous day, but he has pleaded guilty to manslaughter at the deceased man’s home in Graigowen, Tullow, Co Carlow.

The Wexford native has pleaded not guilty to assault causing harm on another man, Aigar Sildars, on the same occasion.

Mr Power told gardaí that he had punched the deceased and stamped on him numerous times. The court also heard that he tried to set fire to the deceased.

He told detectives that he had done about half as much to Mr Sildars.

Ms Justice Isobel Kennedy told the jurors there were two options in relation to the murder charge, either guilty, or not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.

She said the five men and seven women could find him either guilty or not guilty on the assault causing harm charge.

She told them their verdict must be unanimous and they spent much of today considering that verdict.

They will resume deliberations tomorrow morning.
