Wayne Rooney looks a doubt for England’s final match of the year after a minor injury saw him miss training on the eve of the Spain friendly.
The 31-year-old’s recent improvements led to Gareth Southgate starting the captain in Friday’s 3-0 World Cup qualifying win against Scotland.
However, Rooney could miss Spain’s visit on Tuesday after a minor injury kept him out at Tottenham’s training ground on Monday morning.
Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand was also absent from training with a minor issue – injuries that interim boss Gareth Southgate will provide an update on at the pre-match press conference.
The 46-year-old will be without Tottenham striker Harry Kane for the final match of his temporary reign, having released him on Sunday in a bid to aid his recovery from an ankle injury.
It meant 22 of the senior squad trained on Monday morning, leading 17-year-old Tottenham midfielder Dylan Duncan to join and swell the numbers.
