Four people die every day in Ireland due to air pollution according to the Climate Minister.

Denis Naughten says world leaders will push ahead with tackling climate change with or without the US – following the election of Donald Trump.

Concern has been raised about the President elect’s stance on the issue at the UN Climate Conference in Marrakech this week.

Speaking from there Minister Naughten says tackling climate change isn’t optional: We’ve a huge challenge in improving our air quality.

“Even in a country like Ireland where one in five children have asthma, they are children who are gasping for breath in a environment with a compromised air quality.

“Four people die, every single day from air pollution in Ireland, many many more people are omitted to hospital so there is a huge additional burden being put on our health services.”
