British photographer John Rankin will unveil a new portrait book that features wounded British armed forces personnel and veterans.

The limited edition book, titled Queen And Country, tells the stories of personnel and veterans who have suffered injuries – both physical and mental – either while in service or later as civilians.

All of the people featured in the book have been photographed in black against a white background, and funds will be donated to Coming Home, the campaign initiated by Haig Housing to provide speciality housing for severely wounded and disabled service, and former service, heroes.

Rankin said: “It is impossible to even begin to comprehend what these men and women have been through, both in theatres of war and their extensive recuperation periods.

“It made their bravery and zest for life all the more humbling.

“I made a conscious decision to photograph them against a white background with the focus on their faces – I wanted to strip away the stigma and show them as real people.”

Rankin’s works will also be displayed in an exhibition from November 19 where his portraits will be shown alongside works from other photographers and artists such as Arabella Dorman, Graeme Lothian and others.

Some 500 editions of Queen And Country will be on sale from November 17.
