There are around 28,000 men in Ireland living with or who have survived prostate cancer.

More than 90% of men who develop prostate cancer will survive.

Despite being the most common form of cancer among Irish men, very little is known about their quality of life during and after treatment.

A new study – the Irish Prostate Cancer Outcomes Research, funded by the Irish Cancer Society – aims to collect data from more than 1,300 men to help them improve their quality of life and develop new therapies.

Principal investigator and consultant urologist David Galvin said: “We’re going to be collecting data on virtually every man diagnosed with prostate cancer in Ireland.

“This information will be used in the future to direct resources to treatments that are going to work for Irish men and that patients tell us are working for them, and making sure patients across the country get the same access to high-quality care no matter where they live.”

Those participating in the survey will be able to access advice over an app to help with their symptoms.
