Centres Rory Scannell and Stuart Olding have both been drafted into the Irish squad to provide additional cover, following a number of injuries sustained during Saturday’s defeat to New Zealand, writes Gavin Spillane.

Stuart Olding has been drafted into the Ireland squad.

Munster centre Scannell, uncapped, comes in for an Ireland call-up following a fine run of form in the Pro12 while Stuart Olding, who has four previous caps, is also brought in ahead of Ireland’s clash with Australia on Saturday.

Robbie Henshaw was knocked unconscious in the first-half following a collision with Sam Cane while Jonathan Sexton suffered “a minor hamstring injury” and has been ruled out of the clash with the Wallabies, team manager Mick Kearney told the press.

Meanwhile, Simon Zebo (cramp), Tadhg Furlong (dead leg) CJ Stander (head injury) and Rob Kearney (head injury) will all be monitored over the next few days and it remains to be seen whether they be available for Saturday’s game.

Munster captain Peter O’Mahony, Connacht lock Ultan Dillane and winger Keith Earls are all expected to participate in training this week.
