Update 1.45pm: Gardai say they’re satisfied that Noirin O’Sullivan’s personal devices are “secure and not compromised”.
The comment comes after reports that the Commissioner used a non-Garda email address to send and receive emails with sensitive information.
Yesterday’s Sunday Times reported that the email account was linked to the Commissioner’s Dropbox account, which was among those hacked in 2012.
In a statement today Gardaí said her devices are “secured by secure connections” and use strong encryption, and that Pulse information is not stored on the device itself.
Earlier: The Policing Authority says it will investigate reports that the Garda Commissioner used an unsecured email account to send and receive sensitive information.
It follows reports yesterday, that an email account used by Noirin O’Sullivan had been compromised in an internet attack in 2012.
Yesterday’s Sunday Times reported that the account may have been created because the official Garda email system does not allow users to download attachments.
This lunchtime, the Policing Authority says it “will follow this up with the Garda Síochána and brief ourselves during the course of the week.”
