GARDAI IN New Ross have seized around €30,000 in illegal drugs following an intensive operation at the weekend.
A spokesperson for the force told the New Ross Echo that a number of searches were carried out throughout the town and district on Friday.
Around 40 Gardai were involved in the searches. which were carried out at 10 different locations, including local uniformed members and detectives along with members of the Regional Response Unit, the Garda Dog Unit and the Drugs Search tesm.
“The searches were carried out under the Misuse of Drugs Act,” said the Garda spokesperson.
In addition to the drugs – which were composed of cannabis, amphetamines and cocaine – an air rifle was also discovered during the course of the searches.
Two local men in their 20s were arrested in New Ross town, however, with the investigation ongoing it’s likely that more arrests will be made.
The various drugs were discovered in town and in rural locations.
“The likelihood is there is going to be more arrests,” said the Garda spokesperson.
A number of bench warrants were also executed in conjunction with the operation which was carrired out as part of Operation Thor.
