Kanye West was taken to hospital suffering from “temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration”, according to celebrity website TMZ.

The musician was reportedly admitted to hospital after police were called to reports of a disturbance on Monday, a day after cancelling his tour.

Kanye’s doctor Michael Farzam called the emergency services and warned the rapper would become violent when police arrived to help him, it was reported.

Dr Farzam said his patient’s name was “Jim Jones, 39 years old, 5’8″, 175 lbs … suffers from temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration,” law enforcement sources told TMZ.

He also reportedly told police West had attempted to assault a staff member at a gym and he had placed West on an involuntary psychiatric hold, known as a 5150, meaning he was handcuffed to the stretcher as he was taken to hospital.

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department told the Press Association: “There was no crime involved so there was no police report.”

Kanye’s mother-in-law Kris Jenner has said the rapper is exhausted due to his gruelling tour.

The LAPD previously confirmed it responded to a report of a disturbance but the incident was deemed a “medical emergency”.
