The Garda Commissioner, Noirin O’Sullivan, says there is no evidence any information has been compromised after the use of Gmail for Garda business.
Ms O’Sullivan said their systems are secure.
A senior Garda officer confirmed to the Policing Authority that they use Gmail, but not for any sensitive information.
Commissioner O’Sullivan says their information systems are well protected.
She said: “I am very conscious of my obligations to protect national security and policing operations, and I under no circumstances use any system which would in any way allow them to be compromised.
“An Garda Síochána has strong security controls on the use and access to Garda IT systems, our systems are secure.
“There is no evidence to suggest that they have been compromised.”
