The Grand Tour host James May has branded Ed Balls an “idiot” while Richard Hammond has said the former Strictly Come Dancing favourite lacks the dignity for political leadership.
The former shadow chancellor finally got the boot from the show on Sunday night after weeks of defying judges’ poor scores.
James, who appeared not to know Ed had taken part in the BBC hit, remarked “What an idiot” upon hearing the news, while Richard was dismissive of speculation that Ed might return to frontline politics, saying: “Yeah because that is dignified, absolutely burdened with it.”
Ed, 49, exited the show following a dance-off with Judge Rinder during which all four judges opted to give him the chop.
Richard and James’s co-host Jeremy Clarkson was apparently not among the 10.6 million people who tuned in to watch him waltz off the dancefloor, telling the Press Association: “I don’t watch the dancing thing and I’m not interested in Ed Balls, particularly.”
The trio, whose new show The Grand Tour, launched on Amazon Prime earlier this month, have created a social content platform for motoring enthusiasts called Drivetribe. Fans can find those with similar interests at Drivetribe.com or on the Drivetribe app.
