More people tuned in to watch Planet Earth II’s desert episode than they did to see rapper Honey G being booted off The X Factor.

The Sir David Attenborough-narrated nature programme on BBC One drew an average of 9.7 million viewers, while ITV’s singing show was watched by 6.1 million people, with a peak of 7.6 million.

come across. As giraffe are relatively common here they are an important prey species even though they are large enough to pose a considerable threat to a lion. (BBC)

The race for the top ratings spot on Sunday night was, however, won by Strictly Come Dancing once again as it enjoyed a peak of 11.4 million viewers, with an average of 10.6 million and 44.1% of the audience share.

Former shadow chancellor Ed Balls was the tenth contestant to be evicted from the show.

ITV’s other flagship Sunday night show, I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!, drew 9.1 million viewers, peaking with an audience of 10.1 million.
