Conor McGregor, the superstar of the UFC, looks to finally be doing what he has warned he would do for some time – move into boxing.
Earlier this month, the 28-year-old Irishman became the first person ever to hold two UFC belts simultaneously – and it now seems he’s looking to cross more than just a weight category and move to a different type of fighting altogether, after he was reportedly issued a professional boxing licence in California.
Per source, Conor McGregor has filed for and received a boxing license in California.

Confirmed with California State Athletic Commission that Conor McGregor has been issued a boxing license as of today.

California State Athletic Commission executive officer Andy Foster allegedly confirmed the report, speaking to sports website MMAFighting.com.
“He got a licence today and a federal ID. He’s a California boxer now. He’s qualified,” said Foster.
The report is huge news after McGregor has repeatedly been linked with a boxing match against the former boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Well of course. McGregor’s smack talk towards Mayweather has been endless.
“If you put me face-to-face with Floyd Mayweather – pound-for-pound boxing’s best – if I fought Floyd, I would kill him in less than 30 seconds,” McGregor told Esquire magazine. “It would take me less than 30 seconds to wrap around him like a boa constrictor and strangle him.”
Despite bemoaning Mayweather as a rookie in areas other than boxing, the Irishman has said he would swap disciplines to fight him.
According to The Sun, McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh confirmed the pair were in talks about a 2017 fight.
“Is it getting any close? I don’t know, but it certainly wouldn’t surprise me that it’s going to happen,” said Kavanagh. “If the odds were good enough, I’d put a few quid on it for next year.”
Whether the fight will happen we can’t know for sure just yet, but McGregor getting a professional boxing licence is certainly a step in the right direction.
