The executive of the Garda Representative Association will meet today to decide steps towards implementing a €50m pay deal, after members voted to back it yesterday.

75% of rank-and-file officers accepted the recommendations.

The deal gives them pay increases, access to the Workplace Relations Commission and accepts the Lansdowne Road deal.

The development came after gardaí called off the first strike in the history of the force at the 11th hour last month.

Results from middle-ranking gardaí voting on the Labour Court deal are expected today. The AGSI are expected to support it after previously advising members to do so.

President of the GRA Ciaran O’Neill said the dispute had not damaged relations with members of the public.

“Our concern was always the public and in respect of providing a service to the public,” he said.

“However, we got to a situation where our membership were not being listened to and not being heard, so they were forced to take some level of industrial action…Thankfully, that has been averted.”

Meanwhile, after mounting pressure, Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe last week agreed to talks on the Lansdowne Road Agreement (LRA). Unions say the garda deal makes the agreement untenable.
