A Dublin couple made the very short trip to the National Lottery offices on Abbey Street today to collect a humongous €11,345,002 Lotto jackpot.
They won the prize in Saturday’s draw with a Quick Pick ticket bought on the day of the draw in the Spar Store at the Top Service Station in Amiens Street, and it is the second-largest Lotto win of 2016.
The ecstatic couple who wish to keep their win private have expressed their excitement at winning the life changing Lotto jackpot prize,
The winning husband said: “This win will mean so much to all of our family and close friends. There are so many things we want to do for our loved ones which we may not have been in a position to do last week.”
He revealed that they didn’t realise they had won until Sunday evening when they heard about the Spar shop selling ticket on a news bulletin.
The civil servant said: “Last Sunday was just a typical Sunday. I had cooked dinner for us and the kids as usual and I sat down in the evening to watch the football on TV.
“I turned on the news afterwards and I watched in disbelief as the winning shop was revealed.
“I got the ticket and I went upstairs to my wife and I calmly asked her to check the numbers on her phone. She had the National Lottery App so I called out the numbers to her, one by one.
“As we confirmed the fourth number, I just knew we’d won. We still spent the entire evening checking and rechecking to make sure that we hadn’t made a mistake.”
The winner, who is involved with Dublin GAA, said: “Due to my commitments with the GAA, any long holidays will be on hold until at least August but we might enjoy a short break away.”
While admitting that winning the second largest Lotto jackpot of 2016 will have a positive life-changing effect on his family, normal life will resume following their big win.
He said: “I will definitely be returning to work after a small break. I enjoy what I do, so the win won’t force me into early retirement just yet.
“We’re going to have a memorable Christmas surrounded by the ones we love. I will be doing the cooking on Christmas day as usual and we will have all the kids and extended family there to celebrate with us.”
