A pedestrian, believed to be aged in his 70s, has died in a road accident in Co Roscommon today.

Gardaí are investigating the accident which happened on the N5 at Frenchpark at 5.15pm today.

The man was fatally injured when he was involved with a collision with a car. The driver of the car, a man, was not injured.

The N5 is closed between Frenchpark and Ballaghadrreen pending the arrival of Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are in place.
