The first of 165 emergency beds for rough sleepers in Dublin have opened this evening.

The Dublin City Council initiative will see the Peter Mc Verry Trust operate 70 beds at Ellis Quay and the Depaul Trust operate 75 beds at Little Britain Street.

The Civil Defence service will operate a 20 beds at Wolfe Tone Quay during severe weather incidents.

Once the relevant local authority assesses a person as homeless, they will be placed into a bed space via the Dublin Region Central Placement Service and Freephone Service.
