Comedian Des Bishop has said he cannot wait to take part in ‘Dancing with the Stars’.

He confirmed on last night’s Late Late Show that he is one of the 11 celebrities to take in the show this coming January.

While he has no formal dancing experience, he has never been afraid to be that guy on the dancefloor.

He said: “I absolutely cannot wait for January, I can’t think of a better way to spend the next few months.

“At my age, to learn something completely new such as ballroom dancing is an amazing opportunity”, he said.

When asked by Ryan Tubridy about appearing on the dance contest while also filming for his four-part satirical programme about politics ‘This is Ireland’, Des had no hesitation in calling the dance show a “super popular show”.

He said: “I mean I wasn’t actually a big watcher of the show but when I got asked to do it, I’m totally into it, I’ve already started rehearsing.

“All morning I’m learning my dance moves, I’m obsessed with my dance moves, then all afternoon I research serious stuff.”

Earlier this week, Amanda Byram and Nicky Byrne were confirmed to present the first series.

A total of 11 celebrities will pair-up with their professional dancing partners to put their twinkle toes to the test.

Each pairing will have a different dancing genre to master every week, and they will have just seven days to perfect their routine.

They will be the scored by an expert panel of judges and the viewing public at home.

All the contestants will be safe for the first two shows, but after that one celeb and their dancing partner will leave the competition each week.

The show will air on RTÉ One for 12 weeks from Sunday, January 8.
