There aren’t many more impressive ways to propose to someone than on stage, in front of thousands, and standing next to Coldplay.

And there aren’t many more awkward ways than having Chris Martin try to pair you off with the wrong fiancee.

Describing himself as a “sucker” for such romantic surprises, he called the – probably already pretty nervous – man on stage as the group performed one of their last A Head Full Of Dreams Tour shows in Melbourne, Australia.

And then he pulled up the WRONG woman for him to propose to…

We are unaware of the unfortunate wrong woman’s marital status, but we’re guessing she probably didn’t appreciate Chris’ attempt to cover it up by asking the entire audience if there were “any takers” for her.

Of course, when the correct girlfriend was brought onto the stage, the emotional proposal was a success and the crowd roared with appreciation.

But perhaps we can forgive Chris, who is probably pretty knackered out from what has been a whirlwind international tour. And also, because it’s Chris Martin.

Well, that guy did want a memorable moment…
