Good Morning Britain viewers were treated to a double dose of Susanna Reid goodness, when her mum, Sue Smith, joined her on the ITV show.

Sue was a guest on the GMB sofa with Piers Morgan and Susanna to reveal she was supporting a worthy cause, the 1 Million Minutes campaign, launched by the breakfast show.

The campaign, which runs for December, is encouraging people to pledge their free time and volunteer to spend it with an older, lonely person in need of company.

Sue told her daughter and Piers she had been inspired by seeing someone from The Silver Line charity talking about their loneliness and what had prompted them to support the campaign.

She said: “Seeing Bob on the sofa talking to you about Silver Line, and thinking, hang on a minute I could do that it’s only 30 minutes a week … and it really makes such a difference, as Bob had said and other people have said.

“So I phoned up Silver Line that day, got the volunteering documents, filled them in, had the interview, had the training, very good training and within three months I had my very own Silver Line friend.”

Viewers loved seeing her on the telly:

Other charities backing the campaign include Age UK, Royal Voluntary Service and the Campaign to End Loneliness.
