Now that Nicole Scherzinger has finished this year’s X Factor, with a win for her act Matt Terry, she is gearing up for a big role of her own.
But she has revealed that she almost turned down the job – a television remake of Dirty Dancing – because it conflicted with her strong anti-abortion views.
Taking on the role played by Cynthia Rhodes in the original 1987 film, she is set to play entertainer Penny, who falls seriously ill after a botched abortion.
Raised as catholic, the star told The Daily Mail that is was: “a crazy thing because my papa’s a bishop and my family’s really hardcore against abortion.
“So I got the role and I almost didn’t take it because I didn’t want to promote abortion, because my character has an abortion.”
So why did she take the part? Because, she said, her preacher grandfather prayed for an answer and advised her that it would be the right decision.

Expressing how “excited” she was about the job, she said she planned to turn the character into a “positive influence” as she hoped viewers would “learn from her ways”.
The former Pussycat Doll told the newspaper: “We decided that maybe I could be a voice, that I could shed some light on the subject without being preachy.”
The remake will be broadcast next year to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary, and will star Abigail Breslin as lead character Baby, and Colt Prattes playing Patrick Swayze’s Johnny.
