Kate Beckinsale and her former partner Michael Sheen have done the sweetest thing for their daughter Lily, and have also shown just how close they still are.

The Hollywood pair split in 2003 but are on incredibly good terms, and that showed as they celebrated their girl’s latest success: She has landed a place at college.

Kate posted a snap of Michael lifting Lily, 17, into his arms for a big hug, with another shot showing the actress also hugging him in the emotional moment.

Shared on Instagram, she wrote: “The appropriate fatherly response when you find out your girl got into college: burst into tears, drop everything, rush over and pick up everyone even remotely involved.

“@lily_beckinsale we are so unbelievably proud of you. Fly fly fly.”

This might be one of the best posts ever from the Underworld star, along with her recreation of Lily’s birth snap earlier this year, when she, her ex and her daughter got together for this brilliant moment.

Michael is currently in a long-term relationship with comedy actress Sarah Silverman, and Kate recently split from her husband of 12 years Len Wiseman.

But before they moved on with other partners, they were a couple from 1995 until 2003, splitting when Lily was four.

Earlier this year, Kate spoke out about her close relationship with Michael and Sarah.

“I don’t know why everyone was so surprised. Sarah’s such a fantastic woman, I love her and Michael and I have gotten on for years now.

“I’ve known him since I was 22, we’re basically family,” she told Stylist magazine.
