Fans of Homeland can rejoice because now, after what feels like a lifetime, the sixth season is upon us and a new trailer has finally dropped.

Claire Danes can be seen in the brand new teaser in what looks like a typically and politically-charged new series of the hit Showtime show, which airs on Channel 4 in the UK.

While a previous look at the forthcoming new season has revealed little about what to expect, there is certainly more on offer now, including the return of Quinn.

At the end of the fifth series, Quinn (Rupert Friend), was seen apparently on his death bed while being watched over by Claire’s leading character Carrie Mathison.

But, at the end of the dramatic and action-packed trailer his voice is heard asking blearily: “What happened to me?”

He is not seen in the trailer but it’s safe to assume Quinn – who was gassed and left for dead by a group of jihadists in Berlin – is alive and well, for now at the very least.

The sixth season of the hit Emmy award-winning political thriller is set in New York and takes place months after Carrie returns from stopping a terrorist attack in the German capital.

Now working at a foundation that aids Muslims living in America, Carrie will be thrown into the midst of the drama that happens between the US presidential election and the newcomer’s inauguration.

The trailer sees Elizabeth Marvel playing the role of the ruthless president-elect while familiar faces Saul (Mandy Patinkin) and Dar (F. Murray Abraham) are back, as well as season five’s Jonas (Alexander Fehling).

This transitional period in government looks set to put the CIA on shaky ground as a new terror threat emerges, right in the heart of New York City.

Homeland returns in the US on January 15, with its broadcast expected to follow shortly after in the UK.
