Sports presenter Ore Oduba has become the 14th winner of Strictly Come Dancing, despite being one of the least well-known contestants at the start of the series.

The BBC journalist partnered Joanne Clifton in the dance contest and lifted the glitterball trophy in Saturday night’s final, even though he had no dance background before taking part in the programme.

Born in London to Nigerian parents, growing up he often travelled between the UK and Nigeria, where his father is a leading lawyer, but he went to school in Dorset.

Ore first became known to BBC viewers as a presenter on children’s programme Newsround, when he took over the role from Lizo Mzimba, and was the youngest person to do the job at just 23.

He worked on the series from 2008 to 2014 and during that time he also presented spin-off show Sportsround from 2008 until its cancellation in 2010, and then went on to host its replacement, Match Of The Day Kickabout.

The 30-year-old is now a sports presenter on BBC Breakfast and BBC Radio 5 Live and covered the 2016 Summer Olympics for BBC Four, but has continued to work in children’s television.

During the 2012 London Olympics, he fronted CBBC programme Ultimate Sports Day, and he has been a guest on various CBBC shows including Hacker Time, Sam And Mark’s TMi Friday, The Dog Ate My Homework and All Over The Place.

Away from sports and news, he is the host of BBC One’s daytime series on insurance fraud, Claimed And Shamed.

Ore is no stranger to taking on challenges – in 2013 he took part in Let’s Dance For Comic Relief with a routine to Outkast hit Hey Ya!, and in March this year he was part of the Hell On High Seas team for Sport Relief, which involved five celebrities sailing from Belfast to London.

The Strictly winner married TV researcher Portia in November 2015.
