A MAJOR garda operation last Thursday morning saw drugs with an estimated street value of €11,000 seized at a number of different locations spread across the Enniscorthy Garda District.
The drugs, which included heroin, cannabis and prescription drugs, were seized at a total of 14 different properties around the District including Enniscorthy, Bunclody, Ferns, Gorey and Courtown.
The operation involved a total of 40 gardaí across a number of different units and assistance was provided by the Armed Regional Support Unit as well as the Garda Dog Unit. A total of 9 people were arrested and detained at various garda stations around the District and from that number, six were charged and brought before the courts on charges ranging from drugs to burglary, theft and handling and breaches of court bail.
Gardaí have been fighting hard to stem the flow of drugs into the District in recent months. This latest raid follows a similar operation just four weeks ago which saw €15,000 worth of drugs and two handguns seized. A few weeks before that, €45,000 of drugs were taken off the streets as part of targeted raids.
