Religious ceremonies have triggered Christmas across the Diocese of Ferns and thousands have been attending the traditional church ceremonies.
The Bishop of Ferns, Bishop Denis Brennan, celebrated Christmas Mass in St Aidan’s Cathedral, Enniscorthy, where he wished the people of Wexford, at home and abroad, the compliments of the season.
The dignified ceremony which was broadcast into thousands of homes via South East Radio concluded with ‘The Enniscorthy Carol’, which has been synonymous with the festive season over many generations.
In Wexford town, it is reported that the annual fast outside St Iberius Church, conducted by Fr Aodhan Marken of the Wexford parish and Rev. Arthur Minion of the United Parishes, has raised in the region of €44,000 this year.
