GET YOUR runners ready: the highly-anticipated Árachas Ferrycarrig Five Mile Road Race returns this Sunday.

The fifth annual event hosted by St. Killian’s AC is set to get underway at midday on January 8th.

Promising an active and uplifting start to the new year, this weekend’s race will once again raise funds for the development of a new Crossabeg / Ballymurn Community Centre.

Runners are encouraged to sign up now, as all those who enter in advance will receive a special momento for completing the race.

The event will once again take place over the popular and relatively flat looped route from the Wexford Youths FC clubhouse at Ferrycarrig Park, out and up the N11 at Kitestown Cross and returning back around towards the clubhouse at Kyle Cross.

The route has been favoured by runners and walkers alike in previous years, as it presents an ideal opportunity for personal best times to be achieved.

Chip timing will be offered, while those who take part will also receive a special goodie bag.

Showers and changing facilities are available at the Wexford Youths FC clubhouse, where plenty of refreshments will be laid on for all participants after the event.

The annual Ferrycarrig Five ideally caters for both the seasoned athlete and those simply seeking a chance to enjoy an active stroll with neighbours and friends.

A full prize list in excess of €1,600 is on offer, in categories ranging from Junior to the Over-40s, Over-50s, Over-60s and Over-70s.

Team prizes are also up for grabs, as is a Corporate Challenge Trophy.

This is available for teams from companies, organisations, schools, etc, with an unlimited number of members allowed but with the timing of the first two females and first to males to finish considered.
